DESIGN IN NATURE: AN AUTUMN RETREAT AT MANITOGA

Visit MANITOGA, the House, Studio and Woodland Garden pioneer industrial designer Russel Wright (1904-1976) envisioned with his wife Mary Einstein Wright (1905-1952) for their family. Experience Dragon Rock, the experimental home which Wright built onto the rock ledge of an abandoned quarry, and explore the surrounding landscape he masterfully orchestrated into a series of outdoor rooms of varying character and delight.

Please note that this program includes a moderate hike. Guests should dress appropriately, and must be able to negotiate uneven ground, areas of incline and decline, several sets of steps (most with handrails), and two water crossings. 

Transportation is not included in the ticket price; Manitoga’s website provides driving directions. Public transportation is available through the Metro North train to the Peekskill station, where taxis are available.

Forest bathing, or shinrin-yoku, is the Japanese practice of immersing yourself in nature to support physical and mental well-being. Guided by a certified naturalist, this slow, mindful walk invites you to engage your senses, quiet the mind, and connect more deeply with the forest. Through gentle sensory invitations and moments of quiet observation, guests experience the landscape at an unhurried pace and leave feeling grounded, refreshed, and more attuned to the natural world.

The newly opened Manitoga Design Collection and Shop, located just a 10-minute drive from Manitoga in Cold Spring, will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and includes additional gallery space as well as robust retail offerings.
