Designing Wellness Into Your Life Through Your Home Environment

Description

Join us for a Lively discussion with Clodagh and Charles Pavarini III. We are becoming more and more aware of the role of our surroundings – the built environment in which we live, learn and work and play in this equation. The links between art, aesthetics, the built environment, health and wellbeing are nothing new, but applying it to our home environment is beginning to gather momentum.

About Clodagh:

Internationally acclaimed designer, environmentalist and philanthropist, Clodagh passionately believes that good design supports well-being for both our world and for its inhabitants.  Design can transform people lives and transform the universe in which we live.  Clodagh feels that clutter can undermine serenity, recycling and reclaiming materials is essential, but simplicity should not be self-denying.  The experience of entering a Clodagh-designed space is one of blissful serenity. She is noted for her “life-enhancing minimalism – everything that you need, but nothing more than what you need.”

Clodagh has always been ahead of the curve: She was among the earliest adopters of the ancient practice of feng shui in her design practice, and she incorporates such contemporary yet ancient modalities as chromatherapy and biophilia, always with a focus on comfort and universal design.  Sustainability, luxury and comfort are her key design components.

Raised in Oscar Wilde‘s summer home in Cong, County Mayo, Ireland, Clodagh has been a constant force in the design world since she launched her eponymous couture fashion house at the age of 17 in Dublin.

She then moved her studio to New York City, where, after three years in business and frustrated by the difficulty of finding functional art and artisans for her projects, she also opened a home design store in the East Village with two partners. Clodagh Ross Williams was a collection of the work of American designers, many of whom are still working with her today. Vogue Magazine’s design editor called it “the design store of the decade.”

She is recognized as a leader in sustainable design for her authenticity in materials, and the use of natural elements that enrich her projects with unmistakable warmth and beauty, appealing to all the senses.

One of the world’s leading innovative multi-discipline design practices, Clodagh Design’s award-winning international portfolio now spans a wide group of countries  and a wide range of eco-conscious projects and products that include million-square-foot hotels; residential buildings; international spas; private residences; restaurants; retail stores and showrooms; offices; women’s apparel; cosmetic packaging; branding; furnitureincluding her line of outdoor furniture for Restoration Hardware—home furnishings, and even luxury yachts and private jets.

Clodagh devotes much of her spare time to helping others. She truly believes in personally giving back to the world’s communities and is relentless in her international fundraising for those in need. She believes that education feeds the mind and is the right of every child, through which the world will become a more prosperous, mindful and harmonious place.

About Charles:

As grandson of Charles Pavarini, Sr., Charles Pavarini III has reinterpreted the legacy of the Pavarini Construction Company, known for creating historic landmarks including the Seagram Tower, the United Nations, the State Theater at Lincoln Center, and numerous other landmark buildings in New York City and throughout the world. Pavarini’s design style has evolved into a highly poetic blend of traditional and contemporary design elements, carefully developed from a strong interior concept. All of his projects hinge around a powerful central design theme and maintain a certain ‘vision’ which is always dramatically executed given Charles’ keen sense of color, style, and use of lighting as a ‘design tool’. Having sat on the board of directors of the Designer’s Lighting Forum of New York for twenty-five years, he has a refined approach to interior design always staged with strong focal points and exacting lighting technique to harness the artistic and architectural vernacular of the spaces he designs. His extensive experience in the Performing Arts as performer, costume designer and set designer qualify him to conceive projects of any scale and proportion with great dignity and an unmatched passion for mood. As Founder and President of CPDA, Charles was the recipient of a Resource Council Award and has been responsible for winning 12 awards for Excellence in Interior Design and Product Design by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) over the past few years. He has also received numerous citations from ISID and ASID throughout his career. In August of 2011, Charles was appointed Chairman of the Designer’s Committee for the world-renown Kips Bay Designer Showhouse. The appointment is a significant honor within the design world and Charles greets the challenge with tremendous creativity and enthusiasm. Dedicated to serving on the boards of numerous Interior Design-related organizations such as ISID, ASID and IIDA nationwide, his authority within the industry is well-known. Currently he is developing lines of lighting and other types of product that should debut in the coming seasons.
